HIKING
The Three Bears is surrounded by numerous hiking trails of all levels, ranging from short walks through the forest to day or multi day hikes. Many trails begin directly behind The Three Bears. Lunches for day hikes can be made upon request.
SWIMMING
The Three Bears is surrounded by numerous lakes including the popular Kikomun Creek Provincial Park surrounding Surveyors Lake, Lake Koocanusa Marina, Tie Lake Regional Park and numerous other beautiful lakes. In addition to the many lakes, there are numerous hot springs, both commercial and undeveloped, in the East Kootenays.
CANOEING, KAYAKING AND BOATING
In addition to the many lakes in the East Kootenays, there are also many beautiful, clean rivers. House and motor boats are common on Lake Koocanusa. Canoeing and kayaking can be done on a variety of rivers, ranging from the wild and raging Bull River to the relatively calm and meandering Elk River. White water rafting trips are also available on the Bull and Elk rivers and can be arranged through The Three Bears.
BIRD WATCHING
Birds of all kinds can be observed right from the decks of The Three Bears. A short walk takes one to the East Kootenay Slough, ideal form more serious bird watching. There one can observe Northern Flickers, Mountain Bluebirds, Woodpeckers, Black Capped Chickadees, Pine Siskins, the Great Blue Heron, Dar-Eyed Juncos, Song Sparrows, Red Winged Blackbirds, Rufous Hummingbirds, Warblers and many other species, even the Wild Turkey.
GOLF
The Three Bears is surrounded by many beautiful golf courses. Located in Jaffray is the Willowbend Executive Golf Club. Further east are the Fernie and Sparwood Golf Clubs, both 18 hole courses. Located in Cranbrook, to the west, are the Mission Hills and Cranbrook Golf Clubs. North of Cranbrook are the Kimberley and Trickle Creek Golf Clubs. Somewhat farther away are Fairmont Hot Springs to the north and many beautiful courses in Montana in the south.
HORSEBACK RIDING
Horseback riding is available through outfitters in the South Country, both only minutes away from The Three Bears. Single and multi-day trips can be arranged through The Three Bears.
Other activities include fishing, mountain biking and
bike touring, tennis, snowcat and cross country skiing,
mountain climbing and water skiing.
